Abu Dhabi Global Environmental Data Initiative
Partnerships
The Environmental Research & Wildlife Development Agency (ERWDA) of Abu Dhabi is the designated lead agency and host of AGEDI. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the primary partner of AGEDI, and will coordinate the implementation at the regional and global level.
As part of this effort, UNEP undertook and presented the West Asia regional and global study of existing environmental data/information related facilities and systems. Additionally, to facilitate the implementation of AGEDI in an efficient and cost-effective manner, the United States Core Partners Group (USCPG) was established in January 2004.
The objective of the USCPG is to assist in the implementation of AGEDI in Abu Dhabi, and to provide support in the establishment of a data/information infrastructure and exchange network model that can be replicated and adapted in other countries.
The Redlands Institute at the University of Redlands, Redlands, California USA will be the lead technology partner, providing support in the national implementation of AGEDI in UAE. The institute was tasked by the AGEDI steering committee to prepare the AD-SNIPP implementation plan.
ERWDA will be responsible for the AD-SNIPP implementation in Abu Dhabi and the Federal Environmental Agency (FEA) will lead the national implementation in UAE.
The AD-SNIPP partnerships will be managed by the Abu Dhabi Management and Liaison Coordination Committee (AD-MLCC) constituted by representatives from the pilot project's primary partners. The AD-MLCC will oversee the AD-SNIPP implementation and will
coordinate activities with external
stakeholders.
AGEDI Website and Spatial Data Portal
The AGEDI website was developed to facilitate outreach and communication with the stakeholder community. The website currently explains AGEDI activities and its various components. A geospatial data portal was also developed to promote and facilitate access to quality environmental data by providing integrated spatial information services on the internet.
AGEDI and NSDI
The United Arab Emirates has started working on the National Spatial Data Infrastructure implementation. The national implementation of AGEDI is designed in such a way as to be able to integrate with the NSDI by being the environmental node, as and when it becomes operational.
