Workshop on Standards and Interoperability

With the convergence of geospatial technologies, IT and communications it has become necessary to evolve systems that can work together seamlessly. Several agencies have been working to evolve standards and processes for achieving interoperability. While the ISO has laid down generic specifications it is up to industry and professionals to understand these and apply them in their projects. To this end organisations like GSDI, OGC, W3C, IEEE and others have developed specific services, processes and standards which can help the professionals to implement interoperable systems. Industry has made use of the standards to make available interoperability solutions. One of the emerging players is the Open Source Software Foundation. The objective of the workshop is to present these developments in a cogent manner with special emphasis on implementation issues illustrated through case studies.

The workshop will be conducted by Dr Satish Shankaran and Prof A. R. Dasgupta
